Slashing downtime
"The improvements we’ve seen have been remarkable."
Our client was a construction company with a project of unrivalled complexity that spanned over 150 miles. The programme was running behind schedule as a result of 43% downtime.
We identified and went on to address four key problems:
- Inappropriate or insufficient tools for the task were being used (delays could be caused for the want of a 60 pence saw-blade)
- Site access and start-up times varied each day, sometimes causing delay of over an hour
- Information being provided to site was not complete, with designs missing and incorrect material lists being used
- Feedback between the site and the planning office was poor and there were no shift briefings on site regarding the work to be undertaken
£3.1m annual savings were achieved and downtime fell from 43% to 12% in just four weeks.
