Raising the bar on IT governance
A major public institution invited us to look at its management controls with a particular focus on the volume of resources the IT department was consuming. There was a clear need to transform the way IT was regarded by senior stakeholders.
Our first step was to replace a hugely cumbersome management report with a graphical overview that provided the senior management board with targeted information that would allow them to monitor progress, service levels and improve decision-making. We worked with senior members across the institution to alter their perception of IT, allowing them to see the pivotal role that it played rather than simply seeing it as a cost drain.
Once the Board had all the relevant information, they felt much more empowered to make decisions around IT investments and were in a better position to provide active sponsorship to IT-related business change. In turn, this led to the introduction of more ambitious and beneficial change.
