Going underground
Following a disastrous tunnel collapse, a major construction group asked Boxwood to help review employee packages and bring the programme back on track.
We discovered staff morale at a critical level, with defensive behaviour and a culture of working to rule. Worse still, the design team was overwhelmed with technical queries (at 85 a week) to the extent that work in many areas on site had simply stopped. One off-site manufacturing process was running 5 months late.
Using our Process 7™ methodology, our joint team achieved the following results:
- In only 6 weeks, we identified savings of £16 million in plant, labour and early revenues
- 12 weeks was saved on a 31-week contract
- A new design process reduced technical queries from 85 a week to 5 a week
- The tunnelling rate was increased by 340% and cross tunnelling by 60%
- The overall project was delivered on time and within 1.5% of budget
